Class 1 


For the first class, I was prompted to bring something interessting for show-and-tell. After a quick trip circling my room for something exciting to talk about, I decided to bring my music box. Although it appears pretty unassuming on the outside, you can open the lid to see the machanics inside as well as the song lyrics to the music. When you twist the nob to the box, "Leaves from the Vine (Little Soldier Boy)" from the 2d cartoon show "Avatar the Last Airbender". This show is my favorite all time cartoon from my childhood and hold a significant place in my heart, which is why the music box is a way for me to convey my love for the show and the song.

Going into prohect 1 for this class, I am to explore different creative concepts and stories around the object and refine it into a video animatic for the 5th class. Some interesting ideas were spread aroung today after showing the box to the class, but something interesting that was mentioned was "what if" there was a tiny person, or band, playing the music inside the machanical parts. This instantly gave me visions of different shots for a story where an old man lives inside the box and bangs on different bells with his cane to create the sound you hear outside the box. I can see this story as a comic relief with heavy expressions and grumpy character. For instance, I imagine if a child picked up the box and tried to spin the knob as fast as they can to make the music faster. In that case, the old man would be scurrying to create the music in time, and be livid at the people outside and his annoying job.
